PREP FOOTBALL - Mustangs down S-C; Aurelia, G-H, LM-ACT all win

EARLY - John Witt rushed for 91 yards on 17 carries and Dustin Sievers added 82 yards on 23 carries to help power Newell-Fonda to a 20-6 victory over Schaller-Crestland in a make-up game on Saturday night in Early.

The game was postponed last Friday because of lightning.

Sievers scored two touchdowns on runs of 4 and 1 yard. The Mustangs' other touchdown came on a 14-yard pass from Jared Daniel to Blake Rieman.

Schaller-Crestland's lone score on a 21-yard run by Kelly Rydberg.

Newell-Fonda rushed for 179 yards in the game and held the Wildcats to 115 yards on the ground.

Rydberg rushed for 98 yards on 20 carries to lead Schaller-Crestland, now 1-1.

Newell-Fonda quarterback Matt Stauter completed 5 of 6 passes for 75 yards.

Schaller-Crestland had just 152 yards of total offense. The Mustangs amassed 254 yards.

Rydberg led the Wildcats' defense with 19 tackles. Dave Bloyer had 13 tackles, Justin Witzke 12 and Jeff Toomer nine.

Aurelia 54, Remsen SM 28

Quarterback Kasey Reilly rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns and also fired a 50-yard touchdown pass to power Aurelia past Remsen St. Mary's in an eight-man game on Saturday night in Remsen.

Reilly's 150 yards came on 11 carries for a 13.6 average. Heath Brecher rushed for 107 yards on 10 carries and also scored three touchdowns. Brent Kai rushed for 89 yards, including a 42-yard TD run. Kai also caught Reilly's 50-yard TD pass.

Aurelia finished the game with 383 yards rushing and 54 yards passing for 437 yards of total offense. Remsen St. Mary's finished with 291 yards of total offense.

Brecher and Brad Kempfert led Aurelia on defense with 23 tackles apiece. Eric Sonksen had 14, Clint Corderman 12 and T.J. Schaefer 11.

LM-ACT 27, HMS 21

Quarterback Jason Brechler ran for three touchdowns to help send LM-ACT to a win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn last Friday night at Sanborn.

Brechler, who rushed for 38 yards on 21 carries, scored on TD runs of 3, 5 and 3 yards. Hale Hawley, who had 11 yards on nine carries, scored on a 4-yard run.

LM-ACT, now 2-0 overall, won the game despite rushing for only 45 yards on 36 attempts. The Raiders, however, passed for 243 yards. Jesse Schmidt caught 11 passes for 130 yards.

Brechler completed 18 of 36 passes for 243 yards.

LM-ACT's defense held HMS to 82 yards rushing and 136 passing.

Galva-Holstein 18

Graettinger 13

Scott Breyfogle rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown, and caught two long touchdown passes from Matt Egger as Galva-Holstein got past Graettinger last Friday night at Graettinger.

It was Galva-Holstein's first win over Graettinger in school history.

Breyfogle caught a 68-yard TD pass from Egger to make it 6-0 in the second quarter, then caught a 60-yarder for a 12-0 lead. Breyfogle added a 46-yard TD scamper in the third quarter.

Egger was 4 of 5 passing for 144 yards. Daniel Lichter rushed for 43 yards on 11 carries for the Pirates, now 2-0.

Scott Radke made 15 tackles to lead Galva-Holstein's defense. Bryan Anfinson had 14, Jamey Finch nine, Matt Otto seven and Elijah Kastner six.
