Alta runs past River Valley for first win

Wednesday, September 12, 2001

ALTA - Eric Hanson rushed for 123 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown run which set the tone for the game as Alta picked up its first win of the season with a 26-12 verdict over River Valley on Friday night.

Hanson's TD run put Alta up 6-0 in the second quarter. After a River Valley score tied the game, Alta quarterback Jamie Hammer connected with Dru Leyden for a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Blake Huseman added a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Matt Page recovered a fumble and ran 36 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Huseman, Tyler DeMan and Joey Ciechanowski led Alta's defense with 11 tackles apiece. Luke Nielsen added nine.

"That first quarter our defense did a good job," Alta coach Kevin Hammer said. "We held them to 2 yards rushing and set the tone. Field position was a big key in the first half. We had some good field position and scored in the second quarter. We made some adjustments at halftime. We played with a lot of fire the first half."
