ESTHERVILLE - Tim Brink finished second and Marco Merle placed third out of 70 runners to help Storm Lake finish third out of 10 teams at the Estherville Invitational on Tuesday night.
Okoboji won the meet with 89 points. Spencer was second with 95 and Storm Lake had 107. LM-ACT was seventh with 159 and Sioux Central 10th with 225. Okoboji and Spencer were both state qualifiers last year.
Brink posted a time of 16 minutes, 56 seconds - the fastest time by a Storm Lake boys runner in the Estherville meet in eight years. Merle clocked a time of 17:11.
Brandon Ebersole also earned a medal, finishing 20th with a time of 18:38. Mike Solem was 39th in a time of 19:19, Chuck Stark 43rd in 19:38 and Jeff Langner 52nd in 20:03.
Brandon Brock placed fourth in the junior varsity race with a time of 19:56. Brady North was seventh in 20:10, Tyler Radke 16th in 21:14 and Renato Sisalema 30th in 22:39.
Erik Borke finished third in the freshman race with a time of 20:14.
Lisa Bowman earned a medal to pace the Storm Lake girls team. She finished eighth out of 70 runners with a time of 13:00. It was the fastest time run by a Storm Lake girl in the Estherville meet in 15 years.
Storm Lake finished ninth in the team standings with 210 points. Estherville finished first with 41 points. LM-ACT placed eighth with 185 and Sioux Central 10th with 265.
Casey Jennett placed 43rd in a time of 14:37. Kayla Gutz was 49th in a time of 15:08, Abby Lorenzen 52nd in 15:09, Robyn Kruse 58th in 15:35, Alison Douglas 60th in 15:48 and Kiley Stavnes 63rd in 16:30.
Heather Henrich placed 16th in the junior varsity meet with a time of 16:19. Amy Wulfekuhler was 22nd in 16:41, Christina Brink 24th in 16:43 and Emma Fikkert 50th in a time of 20:53.
"This was again a fine performance that showed marked improvement by all the guys," Storm Lake coach John Brostad said. "The JV boys had an exceptional night as all four runners medaled. This was only the second cross country meet ever for all of our seven varsity girls runners."
Storm Lake hosts its own invitational next Tuesday.
Eric Holton finished 11th overall with a time of 18:13 to lead Alta at the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invitational on Tuesday night. Ryan Nehring placed 43rd with a time of 22:46, while Nate Hinkeldey was 47th in 23:08. Tom Hinkeldey finished 51st with a time of 25:31.
Halley Cranston paced the Alta girls team by finishing 12th with a time of 14:32.
Alta runs on Saturday in the Galva-Holstein Invitational.
