A former Storm Lake resident has been elected to lead more than 8,000 Kiwanis members in Nebraska and Iowa.
Jane (Andrews Moritz) Erickson (formerly of Storm Lake) was officially elected to the position of Governor of the Nebraska-Iowa District of Kiwanis August 11. While she has been working and planning with a team of Lt. Governors for the last several months, her term as Governor will officially begin October 1.
As Governor, Jane is the leader of an organization that emphasizes service to children. Most projects Kiwanians work on benefit area young people. Jane's theme for the coming year is "Energize the Dream because Every Child Deserves to be Happy, Healthy and Safe!"
She has served the Kiwanis district previously as Governor-Elect and Treasurer as well as a leadership trainer and workshop presenter. In addition, she has chaired the Kiwanis International "Vision for the Future" committee and has been a part of the Kiwanis International training staff for Governors-elects.
Besides work with Kiwanis, Jane has been involved in her church, Boy Scouts, The American Heart Association and The American Red Cross.
Jane joined Kiwanis in Fort Dodge in 1990 at the urging of Dean Clark (now deceased). She was elected as its president during the 1994-95 year and received the honor of being named "Distinguished." She also served as first and second vice president of the club and worked on several committees. While in Fort Dodge, Jane was elected at Lt. Governor for Division 2 and was honored as a "Distinguished" Lt. Governor.
Jane married Gus Erickson of Bellevue, Neb., in 1996, moving there and then joining the Kiwanis Club of Bellevue-Offutt. Together they have five adult children, five grandsons one granddaughter and one, great grandson.
At the Bellevue Offutt club, she was encouraged to run for Treasurer of the Nebraska-Iowa District of Kiwanis. She was successful and that led to her election as Governor-Elect, and now Governor.
Jane is the Owner and Executive Consultant of The Wellness and Training Works. In that position, she helps businesses, hospitals, schools, organizations and communities with management issues as well as health promotion/wellness programs and services.
She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista University and is currently completing a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from Bellevue University.
At present, Jane and Gus serve as the third couple in Kiwanis International to hold the distinction where both the husband and wife have served as District Governors.
Her term as Governor continues through September 20, 2002.
