Skate Park committee begins meeting

Young skateboarding and BMX biking volunteers will be part of a first meeting with Storm Lake Development Director Mike Wilson this afternoon at 4 p.m. at City Hall, as talks begin toward reviving a skatepark project in the city.

"I myself would like to talk about the idea of getting someone out here who could do a concept design on the skate park," said Shawn Steemke, one of the young people behind a 300-name petition calling for a park.

Having a visual plan would help the community to appreciate what it is being encouraged to support, he said. "Of course we would still need to get the location figured out first. Chautauqua is still my first pick. Another thing to talk about is a place for us to ride at while we wait for the city to get cash to help us out."

He said he knows of a Midwest company that builds ramps for such projects.
