Siebrecht brothers earn top honors in wrestling

The Siebrecht brothers pinned down first place standings in their divisions at the State Wrestling Tournaments.

Cooper won the USA State Wrestling Tournament in the in the Intermediate Division, 55 lb. weight class on Saturday. The tournament was held in Cedar Falls in the Unidome. There were over 500 wrestlers from across the state competing in the tournament and 16 boys competing in Cooper's division.

Cooper defeated fourth grader Tyrel Johnson in an overtime thriller by 5-3 to become the champion. Cooper is a third grade students at Alta.

Cooper had qualified for the state tournament at a regional tournament which was held in Sioux City in February. He will advance on to compete in the USA National Tournament April 3-5 at the Unidome.

Cooper's record this season is currently 34-4.

Cobe won the second grade Super Pee Wee State Wrestling Tournament in the 56 lb. weight class on Sunday. The meet was held in Waterloo at the Young Arena. He is in second grade at Alta.

There were 325 second grade wrestlers from across the state competing in the tournament, 30 of which were in the 56 lb. weight class.

Cobe defeated two-time state champion Michael Baker, by a score of 7-5 in the championship to win the title. The win made Cobe a two-time state champion and advanced his record to 35-3 this season.

The Siebrecht brothers wrestle with the Aurelia Junk Yard Dog Wrestling Club.

They are the sons of Jamie and Tracy Siebrecht.
