Woman pleads guilty in Iowa court to pandering

Tuesday, March 10, 2009
DENISON - A woman has pleaded guilty to pandering for helping recruit two Nebraska teenagers for prostitution.

Marcia Ryan was initially charged with ongoing criminal conduct, two counts of human trafficking and two counts of pandering. Under a plea agreement accepted by the Crawford County District Court on Monday, she pleaded guilty to one count of pandering and faces up to 10 years in prison.

Authorities say Ryan was a prostitute known as "Jazzie." She was accused of helping Leonard Russell recruit two teenage girls from Nebraska for prostitution and strip club performances.

Ryan's attorney, Thomas Gustafson, says his 20-year-old client "was as much a victim as a participant" in Russell's scheme.

Ryan's sentencing was scheduled for April 6.
