Treasures at auction for SM

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Spectacular auction items are available again this year for the 2009 St. Mary's Ball and Charity Auction - Journey Along the Nile. The ancient Egypt-themed ball and auction will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009 on the Buena Vista University campus.

Auction chairs Gina Hartman and Kris Snyder said 28 volunteers helped to secure unique auction items for the local Catholic School's largest fundraiser of the year.

New this year is a week's stay at a timeshare in Lake Bridgeport near Dallas from Aug. 21-28 for up to 6 people. This timeshare was donated to the parish by former parishioners Mike and Bonita Goebel.

Other getaways include a romantic stay at the new Embassy Suites Omaha - La Vista with cocktail hour and hot made-to-order breakfast. A package will be offered with two tickets to a Creighton Bluejays basketball game plus a $200 voucher to the attached Hilton Omaha towards your night's stay, restaurant, or spa charges. A Build-Your-Own vacation package will be auctioned, and there's even mini-getaways to the 2010 Cherokee jazz festival and the Sioux City Symphony at the historic Orpheum theatre and more.

Golf enthusiasts bid high on the exclusive package to golf two rounds of 18 holes at the PGA Hazeltine National Golf Course in Chaska, Minn. You can also golf close to home with a season's family membership to Westlinks in Alta, a golf package from State Farm insurance or two rounds with golf cart at Lake Creek.

You can also throw a party with a dinner hosted by the parish priests, a wine tasting, pool party, smoked meats or even a child's party with face painting at the Chautauqua Park Shelterhouse.

Football fans will bid high on an autographed Fred Jackson football and tickets to the Sioux City Bandits. Other sports items include learning to sail with champion Jake Larson, Iowa and ISU items, a Dale Earnhardt, Jr., racing hood and much more.

And no one should go hungry with the many grocery and restaurant certificates contributed to this event.

Over 90 local businesses and restaurants have donated gift certificates and items to support St. Mary's through the auction. Out-of-town businesses and individuals have donated also. There will also be surprise items auctioned off, which will not be announced until the night of the auction.

Auction items valued at $200 or above will be auctioned off in the live, or oral auction by auctioneer Kevin Cone at 7:30 p.m. Items below a $200 value will be displayed around the perimeter of the Buena Vista University's Dows Grand Ballroom with bidding sheets. Most auction items can be viewed at stormlakecatholic.
