STORM LAKE - The Storm Lake boys' regular season ended in sour fashion at home Tuesday night. After overcoming a slow start, the Tornadoes responded with a big second quarter and held a 25-23 edge over ELC midway through the third.
However, Storm Lake was outscored 31-23 in the final quarter and a half to fall to 3-18 on the season and 2-14 in the Lakes Conference.
Sophomore Michael McCabe led the Tornadoes with 10 points and four assists on the night. Nolan Cone was just behind with nine points, five rebounds, and three steals.
Pel Deng had a strong night in the absence of JB Tut, scoring eight points in two quarters of play. Taylor Anderson finished with seven points, six boards, four steals, and a pair of assists.
The Tornadoes were 18-49 (37%) from the field and 8-8 at the foul line.
Tuesday night marked the final home game for seniors Taylor Anderson, Courtney Goodchild, Jon Hartje, and David Martinez.
The Tornadoes now prepare for the daunting task that is Monday, February 23rd's district opener against top-ranked Bishop Heelan (18-2). The Crusaders are currently on a ten-game win streak dating back to a January 19 loss to Omaha-Creighton Prep, #2 in their class in Nebraska.
Tip-off in Sioux City is scheduled for 7PM Monday night.
