SL Middle School students selected for Karl King Honor Band
The Storm Lake Middle School bands were honored to have six students selected to participate in the Karl King Honor Band Festival. Held in Fort Dodge on Jan. 24, the festival honors the legacy of Karl King, world famous bandleader and composer. This festival featured two bands. The sixth grade band included Jacob Luedtke, trumpet, and Marlee Nicholson, clarinet, and was directed by Deb Fritcher of Ames. The seventh grade band included Grant Kofmehl, alto sax, Amy Lopez, horn, Kate Morin, trombone, and Andy Cutler, percussion. This band was conducted by Steve Lawson, of Harlan. Following chair placement auditions and all day rehearsals, the bands performed a concert featuring a variety of band literature, which included a standard Karl King march.
