ALTA - On the losing end of two straight close games, the Alta boys were able to right the ship Tuesday night, holding of a strong Westwood-Sloan team, 47-46.
After falling to East Sac County by four last Thursday, and NW Conference champs Laurens-Marathon by one in overtime Friday, the Cyclones turned in a complete team effort to pull out the win.
"This was another grind it out type of game," said Alta head coach Dean Lietz. " Westwood is 14-7 on the season after playing very good competition and was a tough opponent. Michael Gallagher (23pts Tuesday) and Kody Gillespie (12pts, 8reb) are two great players. We had balanced scoring which makes us hard to defend."
Alta held a narrow 14-12 lead after one and 23-16 at the half. The margin was still seven after three, 39-32, before Westwood turned it on in the fourth for the final of 47-46.
Jeremy Lambert led the Cyclones' scoring effort with 14 points and six boards. Michael Huseman added 13, Jack Mills 12, and Austin Stille finished with four points and a team high nine rebounds.
Alta has one final regular season tune-up before playoff action, and it's a tough one at that. The Cyclones travel to Orange City Friday night to take on 10th-ranked Unity Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 8PM.
