POCAHONTAS - Five different Panther boys reached double figures Monday night as St. Mary's was able to hold of a second half Pocahontas surge and pick up a 77-64 victory.
The Panthers led after every quarter, including a 37-27 edge at the half, but midway through the third, Pocahontas strung together a 10-3 run to grab a 46-45 lead. St. Mary's answered back quickly, scoring five points in the last 11 second of the quarter, and 21 in the fourth, to regain control and pick up the victory.
"This was our best all-around game so far this year," said St. Mary's head coach Brad Wilkening. "We shot well and contained Pochy's game most of the night. We ran our four corner offense very well."
Michael Ivey led the Panther charge, scoring 24 on the night and added six steals, five rebounds, and four assists. Nathan Lenhart notched a double-double with 16 and 10 boards while Brendan Smith just narrowly missed one of his own at 13 and 9.
Paul Yak notched 12 points and six assists, and Connor Richardson turned in an all-around effort with 11 points, seven steals, six assists, five rebounds, and three blocks.
St. Mary's now gears up for next Thursday's matchup with Alta in the first round of district play. The Cyclones have had the Panthers' number this year, winning both matchups in the regular season (77-55, 61-45). Tip-off is at 7PM in Alta.
