Jean Peterson

Oct. 21, 1927 - Jan. 17, 2009

Jean Peterson, Elkhorn, Neb., wife of Pastor Herbert Peterson who served Alta Trinity Lutheran Church from 1959-68, died Jan. 17, 2009.

Funeral services were held in Bethel Lutheran Church, Omaha, Neb. Burial was at the Elfsborg Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pomeroy.

Jean Viola Ellingson was born Oct. 21, 1927, near Williston, ND. She received her schooling in the rural schools of western North Dakota, until 1937, when she moved with her family to Oglivie, Minn. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1945. She then attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. and graduated from there in 1949.

She married Herb Peterson in 1949 and she and her husband served in Lutheran parishes in Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska for more than 55 years.

While in Nebraska, she worked for the Nebraska Medical Center until retiring in 1988. during the last 3o years, she was afflicted with Parkinson's Disease. She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Omaha. The couple also enjoyed winters in Arizona.

Survivors include her husband Rev. Herb Peterson; sons, Paul (Beverly) Peterson, Twin Cities, Minn.; Thomas (Deborah) Peterson, St. Peter, Minn.; and Dr. Mark (Andrea) Peterson, Juneau, Alaska; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Robert (Ann) Ellingson, Visalia, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Robert Hulstedt, Rockford, Ill. and Roland (Edna) Peterson, Manson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Severt and Gertie Marie Vatne Ellingson; three brothers and one sister.
