ALTA - After surviving a grueling final week of January, the Alta girls' basketball team is back on track following their 58-21 dismantling of St. Mary's Tuesday night. Last week, the Cyclones had the unfortunate challenge of facing Newell-Fonda (#2 in Class 1A) and Manson NW Webster (#2 in Class 2A) in a span of three days. Alta dropped both contests.
It was a different story for the Cyclones Tuesday as they completed their regular season sweep of the St. Mary's girls, having topped the Panthers 70-44 back on January 6th.
Jordan Henningsen paved the way for Alta with 19 points, six steals, and three assists. Meagan Phipps added eight points and seven boards for the Cyclones, Emily Grieme scored eight, and Jessy Bibler turned in seven, six boards, four steals, and four assists.
The Panthers entered Tuesday's game coming off their first win of the season, 56-38 over Aurelia.
The Cyclones (8-8, 7-4 NW Conf.) assured themselves at least a third place finish in the conference with the victory. Alta has three home games remaining on their regular season schedule as they host East Sac tonight, Laurens-Marathon Friday, and Westwood Tuesday. Next Thursday, Feb. 12th, Alta hosts their Regional First round Game against Schaller-Crestland.
St. Mary's (1-15, 1-9 NW Conf.) closes the regular season on the road, visiting to Harris-Lake Park tonight and Schaller-Crestland Friday. Their Regional First Round game will be Thursday, February 12th at Laurens-Marathon.
