STORM LAKE - The Storm Lake wrestling squad looks to be in prime form heading into Friday night's Lakes Conference duals in Spencer following their home sweep of MOC-Floyd Valley and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Tuesday night.
The Tornadoes trailed the Dutch 30-26 with just three matches remaining, but Ben Seaman (160) and Tony Pertzborn (171) answered with pins, and Jake Larson (189) earned an 11-6 decision to seal the win.
"This was a good meet for our last home meet," said Storm Lake head coach Ty Seaman. "It was exciting and went right down to the wire. Jake, Tony and Ben did a great job with the pressure on in the last three matches. I really thought we wrestled solid most of the night. We were a little slow to react a couple of times and we can still improve on our position on top, but over-all we wrestled well."
The win over M-M-C didn't have near the same dramatics as the result was virtually sealed with four M-M-C forfeits. The win was highlighted by Michael Mohr's 16-0 technical fall victory and Pertzborn's lightning-quick pin over Alex Braulkman which lasted all of eleven seconds.
Including Friday's Lakes Conference duals in Spencer, the Tornadoes have just three more competitions before February 14th's district meet. Storm Lake is in Sac City on the third of February when they take on Alta, AGHSC, and East Sac, and they're in LeMars February 10th for quad action with Denison, Sioux City West, and LeMars.
