ORANGE CITY - Senior 165-pounder Kody Koster ran his current winning streak to six with two more victories on Tuesday night as the Buena Vista wrestling team went up against Northwestern and NAIA #19 Morningside, respectively. BVU, however, fell in both duals, dropping a 30-16 decision to the Red Raiders, while falling 31-13 to the Mustangs.
In its opener against Morningside, BVU got its first victory at 157 pounds when senior Logan Silliman notched his 10th win of the season in a 10-4 triumph over Aaron Lang. Koster then made it back-to-back wins for the Beavers with a commanding 12-2 major decision over Jared Wildeboer. The Mustangs then took the next three matches before heavyweight Derek Toney capped things off for Buena Vista with his third pin of the season.
Matt Korinek took a forfeit at 133 pounds against Northwestern in the nightcap to put the Beavers in front 6-0. The Red Raiders then took the next four matches before Koster, who bumped up to 174 pounds, cruised to a 9-1 major decision over Martin Beeler. After Northwestern won at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, freshman Josh Wilkins ran his season record to 8-6 with a first period pin over Brad Hughes.
Buena Vista is now 3-10 overall and will wrestle its final Iowa Conference dual of the season this Saturday afternoon when the team travels to Dubuque to take on the University of Dubuque at 5:00 p.m. It will then return home next Tuesday evening for its regular season and home finale when it hosts Briar Cliff University at 7:00 p.m.
