The Buena Vista University theatre production of "ART" will be held at 8 p.m. Feb. 11-14 in the new BVU Art Gallery in the Social Sciences & Art Hall.
The serio-comic play by Yasmina Reza is about three friends and their reaction to one of them buying an expensive piece of art and the emotional fallout from the stress it places on their friendships. The play raises questions about the nature of art, friendship, loyalty and language.
The cast for the BVU production consists of senior Andrew Lupkes as "Marc," freshman Jarael Madyun as "Serge," and freshman Keifer Nevius as "Ivan." "ART" was the winner of the 1998 Tony for Best Play, and the 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students. There is limited seating. The play contains adult language and is not suitable for children. For more information or ticket reservations please call 749-2211.
The theatre department is partnering with Untitled 11, BVU's student art club, on this production. BVU art students, faculty and staff are creating a number of white-on-white paintings to be auctioned (silent auction) to raise money for Untitled 11. The paintings will be available for viewing starting Feb. 6 in the BVU Art Gallery. The entire production/fundraiser is designed to raise awareness of the new art facilities and outstanding art programs at BVU.
