A recital featuring Minnesota euphonium soloist David Kassler will be presented on the Buena Vista University campus on Tuesday, February 10th. The recital will feature works by Schumann, Boccalari, Galliard, Guilmant, and new composer Timothy Crowley. Dr. Kassler will be accompanied by Barbara Wells.
David Kassler has been a featured guest artist on a number of university campuses throughout the United States on both euphonium and trombone and has been invited to perform as a guest artist at the Federal University of Brazil.
He has performed as trombonist and tenor tubist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra as well as principal trombone with the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra and the Opera in the Ozarks Orchestra. In 2005 Kassler earned a DMA in euphonium performance from the University of Miami where he studied euphonium with John Olah and trombone with Hugh Harbison. His doctoral essay is a biography of Edward Kleinhammer, retired bass trombonist with the Chicago Symphony and one of Kassler's principal teachers. Kassler is an active composer, teacher and writer.
Dr. Kassler's recital will be held in Anderson Auditorium at 7 p.m., open to the public, free.
