Allyssa Dobson loved teaching and science and she enthusiastically shared that with her students at Alta High School for three years.
Her life ended March 17, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 28.
Her parents, Dennis and Cherry (Nelson) Jeske of Hanska, Minn., and husband, Luke, Larrabee, knew how much she loved her career and the Alta students. Last week, they came on separate visits, to the high school and each presented principal Tom Ryherd with a check for $2,500 to be used in the science department.
"She was truly an inspiration to everyone here," commented Ryherd at the time of her death. "She was extremely passionate about teaching and she was passionate about giving kids the opportunity to see all the great things science offers. Her knowledge was phenomenal."
In conversations with Dobson during her time at Alta, Ryherd said she commented often about wanting science tables and chairs rather than desks in the classroom.
The wonderful $5,000 donation will help make that a reality; one that she would be very pleased with.
"This was quite a donation and very much appreciated," Ryherd said.
