Charger girls fend off Bulldogs

Thursday, January 22, 2009

AURELIA - The Laurens-Marathon girls got out of Aurelia with their fourth win of the season, but Bulldogs definitely didn't make it easy for them.

The Chargers led 12-9 after one, but Aurelia battled back to take the lead halfway through the second, 18-17. L-M used an 11-2 run to close out the half, 28-22.

It was still a six point lead after three, 36-30, and Aurelia cut it to 36-34 with five minutes left in the game, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Kim Kenobbie and Shelby Heuton led the Chargers with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Holly Hofmaster added nine.

Amber Loucks led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Meghan Glawe had 10 points seven rebounds, and two blocks, and Erin Laursen added seven points and 14 rebounds in the losing effort.

Laurens-Marathon (4-6, 2-5 in the NW Conf.) hosts Prairie Valley tonight with a 6:30PM tipoff. The Bulldogs (0-11, 0-6) make the short trip to Alta Friday for a 6:30PM game against the Cyclones. Alta won the last meeting, 70-30.
