'Opry at the Sami' Jan. 24
"Opry at the Sami," a Grand Ole Opry style country music show, will be held on January 24, beginning at 8 p.m. in the new 1,000-seat Sami Bedell Center for the Performing Arts in Spirit Lake. This addition to the University of Okoboji 29th Annual Winter Games is the public funding kickoff for the Mini-Wakan shelter house renovation and will feature performances by area musicians.
Warm up, tap your toes, and clap your hands along with Emcee Rhonda Wedeking and Opry All Stars band members Steven Samuelson, Don Demers, Maury Muhm, Nate Newhouse, Jon Johnson, Bryon Kittleson and Billye Jane Kruse in company with performers Colene (Coco) Walters, Gloria Wieneke, Wes Mager, Maceylyn Rossow, Harold Van Der Sloot, Dallas Clark, Dennis Wienke, and the Jessie James Band.
Tickets, priced at $15 for adults and no charge for children under age 12, are available for purchase at the Spirit Lake Hy-Vee Customer Service Counter, the Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce Office, the Maritime Museum Office in Arnolds Park, the Pearson Lakes Art Center Ticket Office in Okoboji. Depending on availability, tickets may be available for purchase at the Sami Center on the night of the performance.
Iowa artists show/competition coming to Witter Gallery
Calling all artists! The Iowa Artists Annual Area 1 and Art Show will be hosted this year by the Witter Gallery in Storm Lake. The show will be open to the public April 25, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Work for the show may be submitted by artists age 18 and older from Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Dickinson, Emmet, Ida, Lyon, Monona, O'Brien, Osceolo, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Sac, Sioux and Woodbury counties.
Paintings, drawings, prints, fibers, scultures and ceramics may be entered, with a maximum dimension of four feet. Ribbons will be awarded to works that place, and winners qualify for the State Show that will also be held at the Witter this year, on May 2.
