STORM LAKE - The Storm Lake wrestling team made up their previously canceled Lakes Conference dual with LeMars and Spencer at home Tuesday nigh with mixed results.
In the first dual of the night, the Tornadoes were dominant as they picked up seven pins en route to a 50-27 win over LeMars. All told, Storm Lake took wins in ten of the fourteen matches.
"I was a bit worried to start," said head coach Ty Seaman. "We came out and got put on our back in a couple of early matches, but we fought back and got pins in both matches. We really settled in and wrestled tough aggressive matches after that. This was a good win to get and we wrestled well."
The Tigers made short work of LeMars in the second dual leaving Storm Lake and a highly regarded Spencer in the final dual of the night. The Tigers feature five different individuals rated in the top ten in Class 3A and have spent the majority of the season in the top-ten team rankings.
The Tornadoes were unable to match their success from the first dual as they fell to the Tigers by a score of 45-18. Storm Lake picked up four wins over Spencer as Gabrial Torres, Ben Seaman, and Jorge Hernandez all picked up their second wins of the night.
"I felt we wrestled hard," said Seaman. "Spencer has a very balanced team, we just lost some close matches in the third period. We need to be able to finish matches and get the wins in the third period to win the big meets and we didn't do that tonight. We are making progress, we need to keep working hard and improving in the next three weeks."
The Tornadoes are back at home again tonight when they host Bishop Heelan, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, and Hinton. Matches are set to begin at 6PM.
