The good news for Buena Vista Regional Medical Center is that operating revenue has increased in 2008, and the not-so-good, that expenses have too.
An audit report on the medical center was released this week, showing that BVRMC took in unrestricted operating income of $34.2 million for the fiscal year ending June 30 - a 5.29 percent increase over the previous year. In addition to patient payments, the facility took in over $850,000 in investment income and almost $350,000 from county tax revenue.
Operating expenses for the fiscal year totaled $30.9 million, a 7.6 percent increase from the previous year. Of that, some $17 million went to employee salaries and benefits.
