Updates form the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office and the Storm Lake Police Department.

Juvenile arrested for assaulting Fareway

* On Thursday, Jan. 8, at approximately 10:31 pm a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 1400 block of East Lakeshore Drive for a traffic offense.

While speaking with the driver identified as a 16 year old male of Lakeside, IA police were advised that the driver had just allegedly assaulted another subject in the parking lot at the Fareway Store.

Police took the 16 year old juvenile into custody and following an investigation allege that the 16 year old male and another male Fareway employee had been involved in a work related dispute inside of the Fareway Store. The 16 year old juvenile waited outside in the parking lot for the subject he had been disputing with and when the subject exited the store the 16 year old male assaulted him.

Police arrested the 16 year old juvenile and charged him with Simple Assault. He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The victim received minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

Fonda man arrested for warrant out of Alta

* On Thursday, Jan. 8, at approximately 7:49 pm a Storm Lake Police Officer stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Russell Street for a traffic violation.

Upon contacting the driver identified as Christopher Carnine, age 30 of Fonda, it was determined that Carnine was wanted by the Alta Police Department for Theft 5th Degree.

Police arrested Carnine without incident and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

South Dakota man arrested for urninating in public and fleeing

* On Thursday, Jan. 8, 2 at approximately 1:00 am a Storm Lake Police Officer reportedly observed a subject urinating in public on the north side of the Malarky's Night Club.

As the officer approached the male subject fled on foot and a brief foot pursuit ensued ending with the subject's apprehension at the rear of the establishment. During the arrest of the person later identified as Bryce Robert Johnston, age 22 of Vermillion, S.D. a private vehicle was damaged causing approximately $175.00 in damage.

Police charged Johnston with Public Intoxication, Interference With Official Acts, and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Wanted Storm Lake woman arrested

* Friday, Jan. 2, at approximately 9:33 am the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 317 West 6th Street in reference to locate a wanted person.

Upon arrival police made contact with Patti Shannon, age 42 of Storm Lake who was wanted on a warrant for Disorderly Conduct. The warrant stemmed from an incident on Dec. 20, 2008 where a police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of West 6th Street at 5:20 am and Shannon allegedly exited her residence and began shouting at the officers involved in the traffic stop. When the officers completed the traffic stop they went to Shannon's home to make contact with her and she reportedly refused to answer the door. Following that police applied for and an arrest warrant was issued.

Shannon was arrested without incident and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Underage drinking

* On Friday, Jan. 2, at approximately 9:48 pm the Storm Lake Police Department received information of a possible party involving underage drinking at the Budget Host Motel located at 1316 North Lake Avenue, Room #28.

Police responded to that location and contacted the occupants of the room. An investigation by police alleges that several persons were in the room and possessed alcoholic beverages.

Following an investigation police arrested the following:

Matthew Johnson, age 21 of Odebolt, was charged with Supplying Alcohol to a Minor. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000.00 cash bond.

Justin Stork, age 19 of Lakeview, was charged with Possession of Alcohol and booked into the county jail.

A 17 year old female of Glidden, was charged with Possession of Alcohol and released to a parent pending a court date.

Tyler Boom, age 20 of Thor, was charged with Possession of Alcohol and released pending a court date.

Fire Call

* On Wednesday, Jan. 7, at approximately 9:05 am, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that an electrical contractor had inadvertently activated the fire alarm while working in the kitchen area.

There was no fire.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

* On Tuesday, Jan. 6, at approximately 11:24 pm, the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to an automated alarm located at the Buena Vista Manor at 1325 North Lake Avenue.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that the alarm was caused from an apparent malfunction of a toaster located in a break room which caused bread to overheat and burn to the point of ignition. Staff extinguished the flame in the toaster.

There was no damage and no injuries.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

* On Monday, Jan. 5, at approximately 7:18 am the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Walgreen's Store located at 800 Lake Avenue in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that no fire had occurred and that a smoke detector in a roof top air handling unit activated as a result of a system malfunction.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

Theft/Vandalism

* On Jan. 7, a theft of merchandise was reported from 1250 N. Lake Avenue in Storm Lake. The items were valued at $2,023.50.

* On Jan. 5, the attempted burglary to the residence at 205 Roberts Street in Storm Lake was reported. No items were reported missing and damages were estimated at $1.

* On Jan. 4, the theft of a purse and its contents was reported stolen from 147 Flindt Dr. Value of the purse and contents was estimated at $157.

* On Dec. 31, 2008, a theft of gas at 222 W Milwaukee Ave in Storm Lake was reported. The loss was estimated at $17.

* On Dec. 30, 2008, a theft of gas at 222 W Milwaukee Ave in Storm Lake was reported. The loss was estimated at $15.

* On Dec. 29, a vandalism to a vehicle at 1831 N. Lake Avenue in Storm Lake was reported. Damages were estimated at $450.

Accidents

* On Jan. 7, at approximately 12:45 am, in the 1000th block of Oak Lane in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Zachary Miller of Storm Lake struck a parked vehicle owned by David Kwikkel of Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $1,200.

* On Jan. 5, at approximately 12:04 pm, at 811 Lake Avenue in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Kathleen Pedersen of Storm Lake struck two parked vehicles, one owned by David Catalan of Storm Lake, and the other owned by Jose Ledesma Torres of Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $850.

* On Jan. 5, at approximately 9:20 am, at the intersection of Barton Street and Lighthouse Drive in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Darren Johnson of Storm Lake struck a parked vehicle owned by Marla Hoffman of Schaller. Total damages were estimated at $3,775. Johnson was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

* On Jan. 4, at 9:30 pm an accident was reported in the parking lot at 1831 N Lake Ave. A vehicle owned by Diana Tapia of Storm Lake was parked in the lot when an unknown vehicle struck the Tapia vehicle and left the scene. Damage to the Tapia vehicle is estimated at $800.

* On Jan. 3, at approximately 3:34 pm, at the intersection of Expansion and Tulip in Storm Lake a vehicle driven by Jose G Montalvo Gonzalez of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with a vehicle driven by Mack Lee Atkins of Storm Lake. The total damages were estimated at $850. Gonzalez was cited for No Drivers License and No Insurance.

* On Jan. 3, at approximately 12:18 pm, at 1206 W 4th in Storm Lake a vehicle driven by Marina Villareal of Storm Lake struck a parked vehicle owned by Luz Elena Gonzalez of Storm Lake. The total damages were estimated at $220. Villareal was cited for Driving While Suspended.

* On Jan. 3, at approximately 11:53 am, at the intersection of Irving and E 2nd in Storm Lake a vehicle driven by Rebecca Lynn Allison of Storm lake was involved in an accident with a vehicle driven by Paul Edward Cook of Storm Lake. The total damages were estimated at $5,000. Allison was cited for Fail to Yield to Right.
