AURELIA - Much like the blizzard that blanketed the Storm Lake area Friday night, the Newell-Fonda defense blanketed Aurelia as their relentless pressure led them to their third straight road victory this week in a 77-33 decision.
The Bulldog girls came out strongly and only trailed 16-9 halfway through the first, but the second ranked Mustangs closed on a 6-0 run to make it 22-9 after one.
The Newell-Fonda defense kicked it up a notch in the second and gave Aurelia fits in the back court as they took converted several easy baskets en route to a 41-15 halftime advantage and eventual 77-33 final score.
The Mustangs won the rebounding battle 30-17 and had 14 different players score in the game.
Senior point guard Rachel Culp led the way for Newell-Fonda as she turned in 16 points on the night. Katelyn Laursen added 11 and Ellen Gruntorad finished with 10 as they moved to 8-1 on the season and face Pocahontas (4-4) tonight for their fourth consecutive road contest.
The Bulldogs (0-8) were led by Meghan Glawe who finished with 20 points and eight rebounds on the night. The Aurelia girls are scheduled to take on Rockwell City-Lytton Tuesday night with tip off scheduled for 6:30PM.
