Updates from the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office, the Storm Lake Police Department and the Storm Lake Fire Department.

Reference to wanted subject leads to arrest

of four people

* On Dec. 31, 2008 at approximately 7:50 pm the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 1300 Oneida Street in reference to locate a wanted subject.

Upon arrival police knocked on the door and reportedly a wanted person came to a window but allegedly refused to open the front door. Police, after several attempts to get the person to open the door, forced open the door and entered the home.

Police arrested Akur Guang, age 37 of Storm Lake who was wanted on warrants charging her with Harassment, Disorderly Conduct, and Improper Use of the 911 System stemming from a pervious incident. During the arrest Guang allegedly spit on a police officer and damaged a police car window by trying to kick it out. Police further charged Guang with Assaulting a Police Officer, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Interference With Official Acts, and Violation of a No Contact Order. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

Police further located a second wanted subject in the home identified as Komi Othow, age 18 of Storm Lake. Othow was wanted for Disorderly Conduct and was arrested and booked into the county jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Police located Charles Ayaffa, age 33 of Storm Lake in the home and report he was violating a No Contact Order. Ayaffa was arrested and charged with Violation of a No Contact Order. He was booked into the county jail and held without bond.

Police allege that Sebit Othow, age 16 arrived at the home and assaulted a police officer. Police arrested Othow and charged him with Assaulting a Police Officer (serious misdemeanor) and Interference With Official Acts. He was transported to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee, pending a court date.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Wanted Clay County

man arrested

* On Dec. 31, 2008 at approximately 8:30 pm a Storm Lake Police Officer observed a wanted subject in the parking lot at Casey's West located on West Milwaukee Avenue.

Police made contact with and arrested Allen Unseld, age 25 of Storm Lake. Unseld was wanted out of Clay County, for Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Deliver (class D felony).

Unseld was arrested without incident and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000.00 cash bond.

Intoxicated man arrested

at Malarky's

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 1:15 am Storm Lake Police while conducting a bar check at the Malarky's Night Club allegedly observed an intoxicated subject trying to enter the night club.

Police made contact with the subject identified as Benjamin Mendez Jr., age 26 of Storm Lake and arrested him. Police report that Mendez was in possession of a small bag of marijuana.

Police charged Mendez with Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense (class D felony) and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000.00 cash bond.

Fight at Malarky's leads

to arrests

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 2:00 am the Storm Lake Police Department was on location at the Malarky's Night Club when a fight broke out in the parking lot.

Police intervened and arrested several subjects involved in the altercation. Martin Silva-Martinez, age 24 and Raymond Magdaleno, age 32 both of Storm Lake were charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. They were both booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond each.

Police further arrested Jose Soto, age 30 of Storm Lake. Soto reportedly resisted police at the scene and at the jail and in addition attempted to spit on officers and kick out a police car window. Soto was charged with Interference With Official Acts, Public Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct. He was booked into the county jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Fight at the Pantry leads to arrest of three

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 2:15 am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to a fight in progress on Lake Avenue in front of the Pantry.

Upon arrival police investigated the incident and arrested the following.

Joseph Lloyd age 28 of Storm Lake and Sylvester Simon, age 46 of Storm Lake were both charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. They were both booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond each.

Jennifer Lloyd, age 27 of Storm Lake was charged with Disorderly Conduct and booked into the county jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Intoxicated man

arrested for wandering through yards

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 2:15 am Storm Lake Police were dispatched to the area of the Pizza Hut in reference to a possible intoxicated subject wondering through yards.

Upon arrival of police in the area they observed the subject enter the Super 8 motel and made contact with him at that location. Police identified the subject as Shawn Arispe, age 18 of Storm Lake. Police allege that Arispe was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested Arispe and charged him with Public Intoxication and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

After arriving at the county jail Arispe allegedly assaulted another inmate and was further charged with Assault.

Male arrested for damaging property and harassment

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 2:38 am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1123 East Milwaukee Avenue in reference to a resident at the home who had damaged a door.

Upon arrival of police they were told by the property owner that his grandson had come to his house and allegedly kicked a door off of the hinges.

Police identified the grandson as Christian Wunder, age 27 of Storm Lake and arrested him at the scene.

Police charged Wunder with Criminal Mischief 5th Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

At approximately 5:19 pm on Thursday police were dispatched back to the residence and told by the owner that he had allegedly received a phone call from Wunder after Wunder was released from jail. Wunder reportedly told his grandfather that he was going to kill him and destroy his house.

Police located Wunder at a residence located at 523 Russell Street #5 and arrested him. He was charged with Harassment 1st Degree (aggravated misdemeanor) and booked into the county jail on a $2,000.00 cash bond.

Man arrested for

driving intoxicated

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 9:00 pm Storm Lake Police responded to a report of a possible intoxicated driver on West Milwaukee Avenue.

Police stopped the vehicle near Faith Hope and Charity and made contact with driver identified as Ignacio Borges, age 47 of Storm Lake.

Police allege that Borges was intoxicated and upon asking him to exit his vehicle he reportedly refused. Police pulled Borges from the vehicle and after a brief struggle subdued him.

Police charged Borges with Interference With Official Acts, OWI, and Open Container Violation. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,600.00 cash bond.

Several arrested after

fight breaks out at Chautauqua Park

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 5:06 am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to Chautauqua Park in reference to a 911 call by a subject who was looking for his truck.

Upon arrival of police they learned that the subject who made the call and another male had been involved in a fight at a residence at 107 Seneca Street. Police located both subjects and following an investigation arrested Bryant Adkins, age 32 of Storm Lake and charged him with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Police further arrested Martell Bolden, age 23 of Storm Lake and charged him with Disorderly Conduct. He was booked into the county jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Adkins sustained minor injuries to his head but did not require medical attention.

Man arrested for causing disturbance

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at approximately 12:38 pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 731 Michigan Street in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival of police a subject exited the residence and approached the officers. He was identified as Ryan Shed, age 26 of Storm Lake. Police allege that Shed was very intoxicated and arrested him.

Police learned that Shed had engaged in an argument inside of the house with his girlfriend at which time family members called police before the incident became physical.

Police charged Shed with Public Intoxication and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Assault at Baymont Inn lands couple in jail

* On Dec. 30, 2008 at approximately 2:14 am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Baymont Inn located at 1726 North Lake Avenue in reference to a domestic assault.

Upon arrival of police they were advised that an Amanda Urban, age 19 of Schaller, had allegedly been struck several times in the face by her boyfriend identified as William Babcock, age 25 of Schaller.

Police went to the motel room where the two had been staying and located several bottles of alcohol which police allege Babcock had supplied to Urban.

Following an investigation police arrested Babcock and charged him with Domestic Abuse Assault and Supplying Alcohol to a Minor. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail where he was held without bond.

Police transported Urban to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released. Police arrested Urban and charged her with Minor in Possession of Alcohol and Public Intoxication. She was booked into the county jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Man arrested for refusing to leave Malarky's

* On Dec. 28, 2008 at approximately 12:30 am Storm Lake Police Officers were conducting a bar check at the Malarky's Night Club when they reportedly observed night club security staff repeatedly tell a subject to leave the establishment.

When the subject refused to leave police intervened and arrested him. Police identified the man as Bryant Adkins, age 32 of Storm Lake and charged him with Criminal Trespass and Public Intoxication.

Adkins was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

Disorderly conduct arrests

* On Dec. 24, at approximately 8:30 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of Cayuga Street in reference to two females and a male fighting. As police were responding the reporting party advised that all three subjects ran into an apartment at 512 Cayuga Street Apt. B.

Upon arrival of officers they made contact with three involved parties in the apartment. Following an investigation police arrested Ryan Shed, 26, Storm Lake and charged him with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

Police further arrested Sabrina Actouka, 25 and Darleen Samual, 18 both of Storm Lake and charged them both with Disorderly Conduct. They too were booked into the county jail on a $300 cash bond each.

* On Dec. 24, at approximately 2 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Brewster's Bar on East Railroad Street in reference to a female in the bar causing problems.

Upon arrival of police they were advised that a woman who was leaving the bar at the time police arrived had allegedly been attempting to start a fight with other patrons. Police identified the woman as Sarah Mummert, 29, Storm Lake. Mummert was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

Wanted subject arrested

* On Dec. 27, 2008 at approximately 3:29 pm Storm Lake Police responded to the Tyson Plant in reference to locate a wanted subject.

Upon arrival of police they located Khouanxay Inthongsay, age 25 of Storm Lake who was wanted for Probation Violation reference Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Inthongsay was arrested without incident and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,500.00 cash bond.

Fire Call

* On Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at approximately 12:58 pm the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 6343 Highway 71 in reference to black smoke coming from two silos.

Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that the property owner was conducting a controlled burn and that no assistance was needed.

No action was taken by the fire department.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Department.

* On Tuesday, Dec. 23, at approximately 1:26 p.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to the Baymont Inn located at 1726 North Lake Avenue in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that a sprinkler pipe had ruptured in room #203 causing a water discharge in the room.

There was no fire.

Fire fighters shut down the sprinkler system and no further action was taken. It is believed that water in the sprinkler system froze causing the pipe to crack and break.

There was a significant amount of water damage to the first floor of the motel.

* On Thursday, Dec. 25, at approximately 4:22 a.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to a report of smoke on the second floor at 801 Erie Street.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that food had been burnt on a stove top in apartment #7 which caused smoke. There was no fire.

The fire department ventilated the smoke from the apartment building.

The Fire Department was on scene for approximately 15 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

* On Wednesday, Dec. 24, at approximately 5:05 p.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to 111 East 10th Street in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters it was determined that smoke from cooking in an apartment had caused the alarm. There was no fire.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.

Theft/Vandalism

* On Dec. 27, vandalism to a vehicle was reported at 1714 Rose Lane, Storm Lake. Damage was estimated at $500.

* On Dec. 23, a theft of money and clothing at 503 ½ Lake Ave in Storm Lake was reported. The loss was estimated at $130.

Accidents

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at 5:05 pm an accident occurred at the intersection of 10th St & N Lake Ave in Storm Lake. Vehicles driven by Eduardo Morales-Lopez of Storm Lake and Natalie Tirevold of Albert City collided in the intersection. Total damages were estimated at $1,500. Tirevold was charged with Fail To Yield On Left Turn.

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at 1:25 am an accident was reported to Storm Lake Police. A vehicle owned by Lino Figueroa of Storm Lake was parked at 1605 W Milwaukee Ave and was struck by an unknown vehicle. Damage was estimated at $200.

* On Jan. 1, 2009 at 9:15 am an accident was reported to Storm Lake Police. A vehicle owned by Bryant Adkins and driven by an unknown driver struck a utility pole in the 100 block of Oneida St in Storm Lake. Damage to the pole was estimated at $25. No damage to the vehicle was reported.

* On Dec. 31, 2008 at 3:50 pm an accident was reported to Storm Lake Police. A vehicle owned by James & Fern Bjorklund of Storm Lake was parked in the 100 block of E 7th St and was struck by an unknown vehicle. Damage was estimated at $150.

* On Dec. 31, 2008 at 2:45 pm an accident occurred on Flindt Drive at the intersection with Russell St. Vehicles driven by Janice Heissel of Storm Lake and Sherrie Bradford of Alta collided. Total damages were estimated at $200.

* On Dec. 31, 2008 at 1:22 pm an accident occurred at the intersection of E 1st St & Highway St in Storm Lake. Vehicles driven by Wendy Tran and Hoang Vo, both of Storm Lake, collided in the intersection. Total damages were estimated at $700. Vo was charged with Fail To Yield Upon Making Right Turn.

* On Dec. 28, 2008 at 2:02 pm an accident occurred at the intersection of E 4th St & Flindt Dr in Storm Lake. Vehicles driven by John Swanson and Sivone Manatham, both of Storm Lake, collided in the intersection. Total damages were estimated at $3,000. Manatham was cited with Fail To Yield From Stop Sign.

* On Dec. 27, at approximately 1:00 pm, at 1831 N Lake Ave in Storm Lake a vehicle driven by Geneva Louise Betz of Albert City, was involved in an accident with another vehicle owned by Stanley Thomas Crum of Galva, and a vehicle owned by Dale Lyman of Eagle Grove. The damages were estimated at $810.

* On Dec. 26, at approximately 7:15 pm, at 820 Oneida St in Storm Lake a vehicle driven by Scott Alan Mack of Storm Lake was involved in an accident. The damages were estimated at $200.

* On Dec. 26, at approximately 10:31 am, at 1100th Block N Lake in Storm Lake a vehicle driven by Salomon Davila of Storm Lake was involved in an accident with a vehicle driven by Trinidad J Zamudio of Storm Lake. The total damages were estimated at $700.

* On Dec. 23, at 11:46 am an accident occurred in the parking lot at 621 Tornado Dr in Storm Lake. Vehicles driven by Pel Deng of Storm Lake and Salvador Zavala Ramirez of Storm Lake collided causing total damages estimated at $1,500.

* On Dec. 18, at 12:18pm an accident occurred on N Lake Ave at the intersection with 12th Street in Storm Lake. A vehicle driven by Melissa Kulp of Pocahontas, collided with a vehicle driven by Edward Anderson of Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $5,500.
