Investigation begins in Lake Park fire

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

LAKE PARK - The State Fire Marshall is set to begin an investigation into a fire that destroyed three downtown buildings in Lake Park.

Fire fighters were called to the blaze just before 10 a.m. on Sunday. It took 12 fire departments nearly six hours to put out the fire in the town, which is about 10 miles northwest of Okoboji, near the Minnesota border.

The building's destroyed included the Hemphill Family Care Clinic.

Denise Hemphill, who ran the business, says she has looked through the building's charred remains and can't find anything she recognizes. She says she had nursing figurines, her degrees and her master's thesis in the clinic.

Officials say no one was injured in the fire.
