Marjorie A. Johanson, age 86, of Marathon, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johanson were held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Interment was in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials in Marge's honor may be directed to the Marathon Community Center or Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon.
Marjorie A. Erickson, the daughter of Joseph Frank and Elsie Marie (Gummow) Erickson, was born at Galva, on Oct. 10, 1922. Marge's early years were spent in the Galva and Schaller areas. Following her mother's death and her father becoming ill, Marge made her home with her aunt and uncle, Singne and Harry Couch, in Marathon. She received her education in Marathon, graduating from Marathon High School in 1941. During World War II, Marge worked in the Peterson Store and wrote the "At Random" column for the Marathon Republic newspaper.
In 1949, Marge was united in marriage to Harry Johanson at Jackson, Minn. The couple was blessed with two children, Lynn Steven and Susan Diane. Following their marriage, Harry and Marge began farming south of Marathon. Marge also had worked as a teller at Citizens First National Bank in Marathon for many years.
Marge was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon, where she shared her musical talents by singing in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed antiques, cooking, taking part in community activities and spending time with her family. Marge will be remembered as being a very kind and generous person who was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her.
Those who will always cherish memories of Marge include her children: Lynn and Joyce Johanson of Macomb, Ill. and Susan and Greg Allen of Lincoln, Neb.; her three grandchildren: Aaron and Amanda Johanson of Macomb, Ill.; Erikka Johanson of Miami, Fla.; and Trevor Johanson of Edwardsville, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Janissa Rockstadt and Klara Johanson; her sister, Colleen Hart of Spencer; many nieces and nephews, and her many friends.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Elsie; her husband, Harry, on Sept. 26, 1997; two sisters, Frances and Nancy; and one brother, Allen.

Claudia Tucker, 58, of Des Moines died of leukemia on Monday Dec. 8, 2008 at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Claudia Jane Jorgensen was born in Manilla, on June 10, 1950 to Kenneth and Virginia (Saunders) Jorgensen. She attended Storm Lake High School and graduated from Iowa Central Community College as an LPN. She married Michael Harrington in 1970 and had three childen. For many years, Claudia enjoyed working as a nurse for Bil-Mar Foods in Storm Lake. After moving to Des Moines, Claudia married Yale Tucker in 1993. Yale and Claudia enjoyed several years living in Newport, Ore. before returning to Des Moines.
Claudia is surrvived by her husband, Yale Tucker; her children Marlo Jorgensen, Nathan (Cora) Harrington and Meggan (Matt) Fisher; her granchildren Shelby Evans, Ryan Evans, Emma Evans, Elena Moreno, Thomas Harrington, Levi Harrington, Sophia Harrington and Murphy Fisher; her mother Virginia Jorgensen; her brothers Dave (Ann) Jorgensen, Eugene (Shelly) Jorgensen, Dan (Barb) Jorgensen and James Jorgensen; her sisters Ellen (Bob) Jorgensen and Elisabeth (Pete) Simonson; in addition Claudia is survived by her close friend Tammy Jorgensen, many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and her cat, Bambi Louise.
Claudia was preceeded in death by her father Kenneth Jorgensen.

Mary Ellen Giese

Mary Ellen Giese, age 89, of Toulon, Ill. and formerly of Storm Lake, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Funeral services for Mrs. Giese were held on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial was in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Mary was born May 15, 1919 in Portland, Ore., the daughter of Robert Tibbs and Maude Bryan Maxey. She married Alvin Giese on June 6, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minn. He died Oct. 24, 2006, in Toulon, Ill.
Mary was a homemaker and taught piano lessons for a number of years. She served as church pianist, organist, and Sunday School teacher for many years. She and her husband ministered at the Storm Lake Church of Christ, of which she was a member from 1948 to 1981.
Surviving are two sons: Reverend Brian (Sylvia) Giese of Kewanee, Ill. and Gary Giese of Maryville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bryan Maxey of Defiance, Ohio; extended family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and three sisters.
