New restaurant with dance club opens on W. Milwaukee
Daisy Renteria, owner of Daisy's Jewelry was joking around with her friend Elsy Morataya about opening a restaurant and making her friend the cook. "Her friend believed her - she didn't know it was a joke," says Mary Cobian speaking on behalf of Renteria. The idea caught on and the friends decided to pursue it. About three weeks later, Cobian said "El Faro" was born. El Faro which means lighthouse opened on Dec. 5 at 1605 W. Milwaukee, formerly home to El Parian and Bakers Court.
"Everyone was saying you need more time (to get everything ready before opening)," says Cobian. But the two friends were too excited about opening their new business. The restaurant serves Mexican and Central American dishes. Morataya is originally from El Salvador. The restaurant is also co-owned by Hector Escobar.
Renteria says the dance club will be hosting a dance party with a DJ on December 31 to celebrate the coming in of the new year and the community is invited to come.
Beginning last Sunday, the restaurant will be open for breakfast at 7 a.m. The restaurant will be open to 10 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and they will be closed on Mondays.
