SL Dancers Shine at State

Thursday, December 11, 2008

The Iowa State Drill Team Association State High School Dance Competition was held in Des Moines last weekend.

The Storm Lake High School dance team brought home two trophies. The group earned second place in Class 10 for their pom routine performed to the song, "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince. The team also walked away with a third place trophy for their hoopla routine performed to the song, "Jellyhead" in the large school division.

The Storm Lake High School Dance Team was also recognized for team academics, earning a 3.2 average grade point average. Co Wabeke is the advisor of the SLHS team.

The St. Mary's High School dance team also participated and did well. The group competed in Class I Pom and received a division 1 rating and in Small School Hoopla and received a division 2.

St. Mary's has a young squad; only two members had danced at state before. Their advisor, Wendy Rice-Larson, is proud of their performance.
