STORM LAKE - Travis Person connected on 6-of-8 three-point attempts to lead four Beavers in double-figure on Saturday afternoon, during the team's 81-65 triumph over visiting Coe College.
Andre Wagner connected on 6-of-12 shots from the field to also finish with 18 points, as Brian Fogleman and Matt Cleveland added 11 and 10 points, respectively. The duo also led the way defensively, grabbing six rebounds apiece, while Wagner recorded four steals.
Person nailed a pair of three's to spark a 10-0 Beaver run to start the game. After the Kohawks had cut the lead in half at 10-5, BVU scored 26 of the game's next 39 points to go up 36-18 with 4:43 left in the first half.
From there the Kohawks, closed the half on a 12-3 run to pull to within nine (39-30).
Wagner then scored five of the first six points of the second half to push the Beaver lead back up to 15 with only three minutes gone by. Buena Vista, which shot 59.3 percent from the field in the second half, then pushed the lead up to 19 three minutes later before going in front 66-43 at the 9:39 mark.
A three from Wagner then gave BVU its biggest lead of the game 74-50 five minutes later, and the Kohawks were unable to get any closer than 15 from there.
BVU turned in another solid defensive effort, forcing 22 turnovers while committing only 15, while also out-rebounding Coe, 34-33.
Brett Petersen scored 15 points and hauled in four rebounds to lead the way for the Kohawks.
Buena Vista runs its winning streak to three games and improves to 6-1 (2-0 IIAC). The team now has next week off for finals and will return to action for a non-conference contest with Grand View University next Saturday afternoon, December 13. Tip-off between the two teams inside of Siebens Fieldhouse is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
