An elderly Newell man died in a car accident five miles southwest of Fonda Saturday evening that injured two teenage brothers.
Donald Galbraith, 80, was driving northbound on 250th Street in a 1997 Chevy pickup around 6 p.m. when he reportedly failed to yield the right of way at an uncontrolled intersection. He collided in the middle of the intersection with a 2000 GMC pickup driven by 18 year old Robert Devereaux of Fonda who was heading westbound on 650th St.
Both vehicles came to rest in a nearby ditch. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Galbraith, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed upon impact.
Driver Robert Devereaux and front seat passenger 14-year-old Thomas Devereaux were both transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. According to the Iowa State Patrol, both brothers were wearing seatbelts at the time. BV County deputies, and firefighters from Newell and Fonda assisted at the scene.
