Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Gardening season is officially over, but there's always news at the Prairie Pedlar in Odeboldt. Author Kelly Norris, has compiled his first book, the Iowa Gardener's Travel Guide, of destination garden establishments in Iowa. The cover shot will look familiar - it's the Prairie Pedlar!

The book, complete with lots of information about unusual plantings, can be purchased at the Prairie Pedlar ($19.95 plus shipping) and delivery can be made in plenty of time for Christmas gift-giving.

Prairie Pedlar moved to its current site at 1609 270th Street in 1997. Today, more than seven acres are grounds for 75+ display gardens, a large refurbished bow-truss barn, a country school house, greenhouse, huge gazebo, gift shop and more. The has become a haven for Iowa tourists and another peaceful retreat for area visitors. The book is divided into regions of the state to allow for easy travel planning. Kelly Norris has lectured throughout the Midwest and has spoken at the Prairie Pedlar on numerous occasions. The ISU grad is a rising star in American horticulture and is at work on another book about the passionate stories of Iowa gardeners.
