First Team

Jessy Bibler

- Senior - Alta

Alta's senior leader certainly did so by example with 2.1 kills per game, 2.5 digs per game, and an 88% serving on the season with 32 aces. Bibler started every match for the Cyclones and her .293 hitting percentage was second best in the conference.

Lanae Broesder

- Senior - Galva-Holstein

One of the most impressive setters in the state, Broesder posted a remarkable 769 assists in 2008, 8.6 per game. Far from one-dimensional, Broesder had 137 digs, 29 blocks, 27 kills, and served at 92%.

Egypt Clayton

- Sophomore - Schaller-Crestland

One of the area's most well-rounded players, the sophomore had 103 kills (1.1 per game), 419 assists (4.4 per game), 161 digs (1.7 per game), while serving at a 95% rate with 28 aces on the 27-8 Schaller-Crestland squad.

Roxanne Grundmeier

- Sophomore - Schaller-Crestland

The high-flying Grundmeier may be best known for her crushing spikes (215 kills, 2.3 per game), but the sophomore was also a standout defender with 298 digs (tops in the NW Conf.) and 38 blocks. Grundmeier shined in the Wildcats biggest games including an 11 kill, 27 dig performance at the state tournament.

Heather Joslin

- Senior - Galva-Holstein

The senior defined efficiency in 2008 with a .319 hitting percentage (250 kills, 2.8 per game) and a 93% service average with a team high 46 aces. Joslin also averaged 3.5 digs per game for the 22 win Pirates.

Chelsea Clayton

- Junior - Schaller-Crestland

Clayton's 216 kills were fourth best in conference and her 65 blocks were fifth. Clayton recorded an amazing 95 aces to lead the the Northwest while serving at 89% on the year.

Lindsey Joslin

- Senior - Galva-Holstein

One of the Maple Valley's top performers, Lindsey totaled 2.4 kills and 3.7 digs per game. The senior also served at an 89% rate with 32 aces in 2008.

Cassie Meylor

- Junior - Storm Lake

Among the leaders in the Lakes Conference with her 229 kills, the Tornado junior was also a force on the defensive side of the net leading the team with 73 blocks. Meylor served just under 90% on the season with 40 aces.

Katie Murra

- Senior - Schaller-Crestland

A pivotal part of the Wildcats relentless attack, Murra led the Northwest Conference in total kills with 262. The senior's 79 blocks were second best in the conference as her presence on both sides of the net helped lead Schaller-Crestland to a regional championship and state berth. Also one of the area's most dominant at the service line, she totaled 82 aces this fall.

Jordan Henningsen

- Sophomore - Alta

The outside hitter wasted few chances as 3.5 kills per game and .313 hitting percentage led Alta as the entire Northwest Conference. Henningsen served at a tremendous 94% on the year with a team high 42 aces. An all-around player, her 2.7 digs per game topped the Cyclones.

Brooke Scharn

- Junior - Sioux Central

The Rebels spark plug led Sioux Central in kills (249, 2.9 per game), digs (208, 2.4), blocks (79), and aces (46). Scharn served 89% on the year while playing in every game in 2008.

Jordan Sunblad

- Senior - Laurens-Marathon

Sunblad was a driving force for the 14-7 Chargers. The senior led L-M in kills (193, 2.4 per game), blocks (54), and aces (47). She also collected 194 digs in a very competitive Northwest Conference.

Courtney Van Haaften

- Sophomore - Alta

Alta's well oiled offensive machine all ran through Van Haaften this fall. Her 6.7 assists per game (449 total) topped the conference. The super-soph served over 95% in 2008 with 24 aces. She was also third on the squad with 57 digs and second with 16 blocks.

Second team

Chelsey Anderson

- Senior - Laurens-Marathon

The Chargers' attack flowed through Anderson in 2008 as she notched 512 assists to lead the conference. Her 35 aces helped L-M finish second in the conference in that category.

Jordan Bauer

- Junior - Storm Lake

Bauer helped guide the Tornadoes to a third place finish in the Lakes with her 239 assists in 2008. The junior libero also totaled 30 blocks 48 ace serves.

Katie Blum

- Junior - Storm Lake

One of four juniors to start every match for the Tornadoes, Blum was their most versatile player registered 170 kills ( 2 per game), 157 digs (1.8 per) , and served 86% with 24 aces.

Ashley Buell

- Junior - Galva-Holstein

Buell averaged 4.5 digs per game en-route to 398 this fall. The junior was a dominant server as well with a 93% average with 35 aces.

Rachel Culp

- Senior - Newell-Fonda

Newell-Fonda's defensive specialist totaled 251 digs in 2008 (3.5 per game) while also converting 244 of 252 service attempts with 28 aces.

Jen Dimig

- Junior - St. Mary's

The junior did a bit of everything for the Panthers during the 2008 season. Dimig's 50 kills, 99 blocks, and 25 aces were all team-highs. She also added 174 digs.

Grace Rehnstrom

- Sophomore - Sioux Central

Rehnstrom had an impressive sophomore showing with 110 kills, 152 digs, and a team high 262 assists. Of her 202 service attempts in 2008, 193 were successful with ten aces.

Heidi Rollefson

- Junior - Galva-Holstein

A very reliable third option in the Pirates' attack, Rollefson totaled 136 kills (1.6 per game) this fall while also posting 43 blocks, second best on the team.

Sydney Shell

- Junior - Schaller-Crestland

A catalyst for the Wildcats on both offense and defense, Shell was second on the team with 348 assists (3.7 per game) and served a conference-high 98% with 27 aces. The junior also dug out 157 in 2008.

Ashley Syndergaard

- Sophomore - Alta

Part of the Alta's stellar youth movement in 2008, Syndergaard was a viable third attacking option with 1.3 kills per game (87) and their top defender at the net with 0.7 blocks per game (45 total).

Shelby Heuton

- Junior - Laurens-Marathon

The junior middle hitter was a force at the net this fall with 168 kills and 31 blocks. Heuton also dug out 56 and served 90% with 46 aces for a Charger team that took third in the Northwest Conference.

Megan Thompson

- Sophomore - Storm Lake

Thompson led Storm Lake with 332 assists (3.9 per game) this fall. She also averaged just under a dig per game while converting 350 of 359 service attempts with 33 aces.

Amanda Zylstra

- Junior - Laurens-Marathon

The junior's 290 digs were second best in the conference. A definite two-way player, Zylstra served an astounding 96% with 41 aces while added 107 kills in 2008.

Honorable mention

Lauren Devereaux

- Senior - Newell-Fonda

Devereaux's 90 kills and 81 digs were both second for the Mustangs. The senior also served 93% with 27 aces.

Kaitlin Franken

- Senior - Schaller-Crestland

Franken averaged 2.1 digs per game, 201 total, in her senior year. Served at 97% with 24 aces for the state qualifying Wildcats.

Hillary Glienke

- Sophomore - Alta

Another Cyclone sophomore that saw significant time and excelled this fall. Glienke was a solid attacking option with 75 kills (1.1 per game) and reliable at the service line (88% with 24 aces).

Susan Kies

- Junior - Newell-Fonda

The Mustangs' jack of all trades junior finished with 70 kills, 191 assists, 31 digs, nine blocks, and served 89% on the year with 44 aces. Her aces and assists were team highs, as was her .253 hitting percentage.

Erin Laursen

- Junior - Aurelia

The Aurelia junior was second on the team with 31 kills. Her 24 blocks led the team while also adding 75 digs, 14 assists, and a 90% service rate.

Anyssa Lenhart

- Sophomore - St. Mary's

In a brutal conference, Lenhart shined defensively with 215 digs, 4.7 per game, and 71 blocks. She was the Panthers' second leading attacker with 23 kills while serving at 84%.
