Steve Kettering named Senate whip, targets 'out of control' spending

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Iowa Senate Republicans caucused Tuesday to vote upon new leadership and local Senator Steve Kettering, Lake View, was elected as Minority Whip. Senator Paul McKinley (R-Chariton) was chosen as the new Senate Minority Leader for the next two years.

Kettering was re-elected for a third term on November 4th and has served as ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and also serves on the State Government, Commerce, Natural Resources and Environment, and Labor and Business Relations Committees. A local banker by trade, Kettering said his goal will continue to be working to bring fiscal responsibility back to state government in Iowa.

"I look forward to helping lead Senate Republicans and work on legislation that helps reign in our state's out of control spending as well as work to lower taxes, grow our economy, and create jobs in Iowa," stated Kettering.

As Democrats retain power in the chamber, Senate Republicans will focus on being a spending watchdog for the state, Kettering said, concentrating on retaining Iowa's pro-business economy, as well as hopefully providing for tax relief and advocate for smaller government.
