Atombender has perhaps the most unusual sound among the eight bands signed for the EDGEdOut battle of the bands November 22 at the Storm Lake Knights of Columbus Hall.
These seven friends from the Ames area came together with a busy alternative/punk/ska sound that features a trombone and trumpet horn section and electronic keys to go with the metal pace of twin lead guitars, bass and ambitious drumming.
The band brings a lot of energy to the stage, and released their new CD, "Turn It Up!" November 11. They are becoming known for raucuous songs like "Night Riot" and "Yada in My Pocket," which can be sampled for free at www.purevolume.com/atombender
"We came together as a band because of our love of music," the members say. "We have a hard-hitting style but we get the crowds dancing with catchy melodies. We try to put as much passion as we possibly can into playing our music and hope to evoke those same feelings in the crowd."
EDGEdOUT will begin at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6. Bands will be selling their CD's and signing autographs Admission is $5. The victor of the rock battle will be invited to EDGEFest '09 at Sunset Park in May.
