Erin Safley earns All-State honors

Erin Safley of Sioux Central High School has attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected as a member of the 2008 All-State Band. Erin is the daughter of Bill and Holli Safley of Peterson and is an instrumental student of Barb Wells and Rod Shedenhelm.

The 2008 Festival will celebrate the 62nd anniversary of this prestigious event. District auditions for the 283 piece All-State Band, 199 piece All-State Orchestra and 601 voice All-State Chorus were held Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Storm Lake, Hampton, Oelwein, Atlantic, Indianola, and Fairfield. Approximately 17% of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles. Participants will rehearse in Ames on Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22, and the Festival Concert will be presented to the public at 7:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State University, Ames, on Saturday evening, Nov. 22.

Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 27 at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, November 30 at 5 p.m. Check the IPTV website ( for any changes. The program is under the auspices of the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa Music Educators Association.

Tickets are $15 each and all seats are reserved. Tickets may be obtained through Ticketmaster, and also the Iowa State Athletic Ticket Office.
