Two local businessmen drove around the block a couple times on their way to an appointment with an attorney before they parked, pondering on what to name their new store.
"We had several different ideas and had to narrow it down," says Brandon Frank. "We were late for our appointment because we didn't have a name." All of a sudden Frank's buddy and business partner Jeff Bowles blurted out a name - Zone Home Entertainment, both knew that was it - that was the perfect name for their store.
The Zone which opened Nov. 2 on Lake Ave. specializes in televisions and custom home theaters as well as other retail electronics. Frank says they strive to provide a higher end service and a higher end product. "When you walk in our store you're not just a number, like you are at a big box store," says Frank. The Zone carries a full line of plasma and flat screen TVs. Frank says that although the flat screen TVs may look flimsy they are built solid, can be hung to save space, project a better picture and are lighter in weight. Frank said they will deliver TVs to customers and help set them up if needed.
Frank and Bowles are originally both from Spirit Lake. They both were involved in the electronics industry in the lakes area and after moving to Storm Lake said they felt there was a need and a big demand for an electronics store in the community. "Through a lot of discussion it was a joint effort (deciding to open the store), we always wanted to do it," said Frank. "Just didn't know it was going to happen so soon," added Bowles.
After the space became available in September the two owners say many hours went into remodeling it after gutting the entire building down to just a shell giving it a new and refreshed look.
"We just invite everyone to stop in and see what we've got," says Frank.
The Zone is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Watch for a grand opening in the near future. For more information call 732-4000. The store is located at 508 Lake Ave. next to Rust's Western Shed.
