FORT DODGE - The Galva-Holstein girls cross-country team turned in a well-rounded effort to take a 9th place finish at the state meet on Saturday.
Ashley Drey led the squad with a 43rd place finish at 16:15. Jayde Boyle followed at 16:27, Breanna Mathes at 16:40, Jessica Mathes at 16:41, Meg Kofmehl at 16:59, Sarah Forristal at 18:42, and Annie McAreavy at 19:32.
The Galva-Holstein girls have had a recent run of sucess following last year's 8th place finish.
Sara Stoakes of of North Tama took the 1A girls crown with a time of 14:35. Sioux Central's Rachel Hamilton was an individual qualifier and took 33rd overall out of 126 runners with a time of 16:03.
The Laurens-Marathon boys cross-country team turned in an 11th place finish led by Trent Kischer who's 17:23 was good enough for 34th place and Chad Kischer who finished 40th at 17:29. Bennet Barglof turned in an 18:16 5K followed by David Jones at 18:33, Justin Depew at 18:44, Case Bieri at 18:47, and Mark Griffin at 19:28.
Senior Drew Sikkema of Prince of Peace, Clinton took first overall with a time of 15:58. Individual qualifier John Harris of Galva-Holstein took 31st 17:21.
In Class 1A, the Pekin girls and South Winneshiek Calmar boys took home the team championships. Class 2A saw the Spirit Lake boys and Laporte City Union girls take first. The Mount Vernon girls took home top honors in 3A alongside the Algona boys. Pleasant Valley took the 4A boys team title while Dowling Catholic took the girls team honors.
