Rockers honor vets in unique area concert

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Two outstandingly entertaining bands will honor U.S. military veterans at the annual Rock4Vets Show on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Sideline and The Senn Menn headline the fun evening of music and dancing in the Pavilion at Arnolds Park, presented by the Iowa RockNRoll Music Museum. All military veterans are admitted free. Tickets for everyone else are only $5. All attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.

The nation's colors will be presented by representatives from all five military veterans posts in Dickinson County. Dallas Clark will sing the National Anthem to open the show at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30.

"We love doing this show every year because all the veterans, their families and friends have such a good time," said Iowa RockNRoll President Tom Golden. "Many people find it helps them cope with the withdrawals they experience after Rock the Roof is over for the year," he added.

According to Golden, 30 American Legion and VFW posts in a six-county region of Northwest Iowa received invitations this year. "We invite everyone to come and honor all veterans," he said. "It is always fun and, at the same time, we can help the food pantry with the holiday season coming up."
