STORM LAKE - Both the Gustavus Adolphus and Buena Vista women's soccer teams had to endure the extreme windy conditions that Mother Nature presented on Sunday afternoon, and it was the Gusties coming out on top, picking up an 8-0 victory. The game was the final home contest for BVU this season.
The Gusties got on the board first just more than a minute into the contest before adding two more goals midway through the half to take a 3-0 lead. Gustavus, which out-shot BVU 26-5 in the contest turned in four more second-half goals to secure its seventh win of the year.
Emily Heger (Sioux City, Iowa/Lawton-Bronson) and Kelsey Reitmeier (Sioux City, Iowa/North) each finished with two shots on the day, while Michaela Gelecki (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) added another. In-goal, Justine McGarvey (Buckingham, Iowa/Union-LaPorte City) went the distance and tallied 10 saves.
Ashley Voigtlander and Chelsea Craven turned in two goals apiece to lead Gustavus Adolphus.
Buena Vista goes to 2-15 on the season and will close out its 2008 campaign with an Iowa Conference road contest next Sunday, November 2, at Coe College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
