The Tornado JV and freshmen teams wrote the preamble for the varsity's big win on Tuesday night as both teams battled in heavily contested games and emerged on top to complete Storm Lake's sweep of Spencer.
The JV won in two games, 21-19 and 21-15 to push their regular season record to 6-11-1.
"This was a great team effort and a fun match to end the season," said coach Janet Anderson. "We played really well offensively to finish with 20 kills as a team. This was a very enjoyable group of athletes to coach."
Jackie Brungardt led the JV with eight kills on the night while Brooke Gaffney recorded four. Emily Deters led the Tornadoes with three aces on the night to go with one block and one kill.
Katie Goodchild led the team with six assists.
The Tornado freshmen also swept both games 21-18 and 21-17 to round out their season with an impressive 10-4 record.
Kristin Anderson led the attack with three kills on the night. Carrissa Brown and Morgan Vandersloot each added two.
Erin Deters had a strong all-around effort as she collected one kill, four assists, and a team high seven aces. Erica Allen finished with three of her own on the night.
"This group of freshmen have a lot of talent," said coach Staci Maloy. "They showed that by the successful season they had. I look forward to watching them over the next three years."
