Bulldogs eye playoff berth

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Since falling to #4 Ar-We-Va, the Bulldogs have been a team on a mission. Aurelia (4-2)has beaten their last two opponents by an average of four touchdowns a game including last weeks 41-10 homecoming win over Charter Oak-Ute.

Their opponent this week should provide a closer game. Woodbine (4-2, 3-1 in district) is coming off of a 64-14 and is currently tied with Aurelia for third place in the district. The game is a crucial one for the Bulldogs who will need to win at least one more, and possibly two, to ensure a playoff berth.

Their opponent next week, Remsen Union, has already clinched a playoff berth. Their final opponent, Remsen St. Mary's is in the hunt at 2-2 in the district and has a game remaining against winless Charter Oak.

Junior running back Jacob Howey has averaged 239 yards from scrimmage and 4 TDs over the last two games. He's amassed 736 and 10 TDs on the season. Steve White and Alec Ohlson have been solid spelling Howey as they've combined for 309 yards and six scores.

The sure-tackling Bulldog defense has been flying all over the field lately with most of the points given up coming during the waning minutes of the fourth quarter against reserves. White leads the squad with 67 tackles while Ohlson is second with 62. Anthony Fowler, Zach Nixon, and Aaron Bruce have been dominant up front as they've combined for 38 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Aurelia will look to get into better position for a run at state in Myron Radke's final year at the helm this Friday at Woodbine at 7PM.
