Santa's Castle made an early season debut Wednesday in a Business After Hours event. The Storm Lake landmark features an all new theme based "The Nutcracker" story and all new main floor displays re-telling the classic tale.
Visitors this year will encounter a forest of Christmas trees, a castle atop a mountain, animated dancers from around the world, an expanded model railway, and an sprawling collection of 300 nutcracker figures on loan from Robbie Ludy of Storm Lake.
The Castle saw 7,000 visitors last season, and will open with a Grand Lighting Ceremony in November. School and bus tours may now schedule dates, and the Chamber of Commerce is also welcoming volunteers to schedule dates to help staff the Castle. Plans are being made for the Miracle on Lake Avenue and Scrooge Contest holiday celebrations, which should be complete next week.
