The Storm Lake Tornadoes made the trip to Schaller Saturday morning as they took part in the Wildcats' home tournament.
The Tornadoes opened play with a loss to #5 East Sac County. Cassie Meylor recorded four kills and Katie Blum three as Storm Lake fell 10-21, 8-21. East Sac would remain undefeated as they won all five of their matches Saturday, including a sweep of the host Wildcats.
Storm Lake's next pairing was against Manson Northwest Webster. They regained their form against their second opponent, but the Tornadoes fell again 21-19, 9-21, and 13-15. Meylor and Blum recorded eight and six kills respectively.
The girls bounced back in the third game as they topped Cherokee in three, 13-21, 21-19, and 15-13. Blum and Meylor combined for 19 kills, Katie Bauer recorded 11 assists and Megan Thompson added eight.
In their fourth match, Storm Lake dropped a close one to the Sioux Central Rebels 17-25, 25-23, and 17-19.
Blum had nine kills and eight digs in the match while Meylor added another six kills to go along with two blocks. Thompson a strong effort against the Rebels as she recorded ten assists, eight digs, and three aces.
Sioux Central's Brooke Scharn posted 16 kills against Storm Lake in the Rebels win. Grace Rehnstrom recorded 18 assists.
Sioux Central won three and dropped two on the day. The Rebels fell to Class 2A #8 Sheldon and Cherokee while knocking off Storm Lake, Class 1A #8 Schaller-Crestland, and Rockwell City Lytton.
Storm Lake closed out their tournament play with a win as they dropped Rockwell City Lytton in two straight 25-10 and 25-14.
Katie Goodchild recorded five aces in the win. Thompson added another 15 assist, and Meylor had her strongest match with 13 kills and five aces.
Meylor was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts on Saturday.
