HOLSTEIN - The Galva-Holstein Pirates volleyball team got their conference tournament play off to a great start as they were dominant in four straight wins.
The Pirates defeated Remsen Union 21-13, 21-9, Lawton Bronson 21-9, 21-6, Kingsley Pierson 22-20, 21-12, and Woodbury Central 19-21, 21-9, and 15-13.
"Our servng was consistent today, which put some teams on the defensive," said Galva Holstein head coach Scott Mitchell. "We were able to get a lot of free balls and get into our offense. We did block well at times throughout the tournament. We need to do that to be successful."
The Pirates served 93% as a team en route to racking up 26 aces during the first rounds of tournament play held in Holstein.
Heather and Lindsey Joslin led the offensive attack for the Pirates as they collected 20 and 16 kills respectively.
Lanae Broesder did well setting up the offense as she was credited with 65 assists.
Heather Joslin led the team with 11 ace serves, and Brandi Waggoner added five for the Pirates.
On the defensive end, Ashley Buell led the way with 55 digs. for Galva-Holstein. Heather and Lindsey Joslin added 42 and 34 respectively.
Wagoner led the Pirate netters with 14 blocks during tournament play.
Brooke Wiese was second with nine to her credit.
The win moves Galva-Holstein to 15-6 on the season, good enough for #15 in the state.
They resumed Western Valley Conference tournament play on Monday night as they squared off against Logan-Magnolia in the semifinals.
