Annual German Feast to be held at St. Johns

Thursday, September 25, 2008

If you like good German food then Hanover is the place to be on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Every fall with the exception of 2001, when the construction was underway on the Church's addition, the rural Alta congregation of St. John Lutheran Church has hosted a German Feast. This year the 17th annual German Feast will be held on Sept. 27.

The basement fellowship hall where the meal is served is fully handicap accessible with a drive up drop-off area and full-sized elevator. The addition also includes a multi-purpose room and handicapped restrooms on the main floor as well as two classrooms in the lower level.

Be sure to bring your appetite for the homemade bounty including sauerkraut and brats, sauerbraten, German potato salad, as well as the congregation's garden produce including beet pickles, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and applesauce. The meal is served family style accompanied by home-baked breads, summer sausage and cheese and a delicious apple cake for dessert.

In the past, close to 500 people have enjoyed the feast each year, so please help the committee plan by calling in your reservation for a 5, 6:15 or 7:15 p.m. meal. Adults are $9, children 5-12 are $4 and preschools eat free! Contact numbers are 284-1230, 434-5630 and 282-4459.

The proceeds are divided equally between this year's chosen projects. They include Concordia Lutheran School, Hanover Parsonage and Parkersburg Churches. Thrivent Financial Services will be matching funds. We look forward to seeing you on Sept. 27.
