The Cyclones looked more like the football team Alta fans expected to see this year in last week's 54-8 blowout win over Woodbury Central. The Cyclones forced eight turnovers and churned out 275 rushing yards and 7TDs in the win. Jack Mills had a career day with 132 yards and four scores.
Alta's opponent this week, Kingsley-Pierson, is winless on the year and took a beating last week from the LeMars Gehlen Jays 53-14. K-P had no answer for the Jays as they put up 418 yards of offense and forced four turnovers.
While LeMars-Gehlen did the majority of their damage through the air, the Cyclone ground game should have another big night this Friday.
Through four games, the backfield duo of Mills and Michael Huseman has been hard to contain as they both average over 6.5 yards per attempt. On 50 rushes, Mills has 348 yards and five rushing TDs. Huseman has 224 yards and 4TDs on 35 carries. Jake Syndergaard is just under 100 yards as well, but the senior switched from fullback to tackle last week and it paid dividends.
The K-P offense has struggled to find much luck this season. They average 2.8 yards per carry and have thrown just one touchdown versus eight interceptions. An active Cyclone defense could have another big night.
Austin Stille and Schuyler Radke are among the Class A tackle leaders with 45 and 40. Stille and Huseman are tied for the team lead with two interceptions apiece. Cameron Manteufel ran is his first INT of the year back 50 yards for a score last week.
Alta and Kingsley-Pierson are set to kick off at 7PM Friday night in Kingsley.
