The Storm Lake Knights of Columbus will again have their Drive for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (formerly the "Mentally Handicapped Drive"). The KC's will raise funds by holding an Omelette Breakfast and Silent Auction on Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Omelettes, rolls, coffee and juice will be served from 7:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.
Tickets are available for $5 per person or $15 per family (children under 6 are free.) The Storm Lake KC's have raised thousands of dollars over the years for Faith Hope and Charity, Genesis Development, Storm Lake Special Education and Storm Lake Special Olympics. The KC's across the State of Iowa have raised millions of dollars over the past three decades for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities. This year's honorable chairperson for the event is Chris Strader who has been a client of Genesis for several years. "The generosity from the Knights of Columbus provided through the annual fund drive has been very important in helping all of us associated with Genesis Development become productive citizens. The Genesis staff has helped me learn valuable job skills, and they have offered social activities that may not have otherwise been available," wrote Strader in a letter to businesses.
All proceeds are directed to organizations which benefit Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, making this a charitable donation.
In addition to the Omelette Breakfast and Silent Auction, the Storm Lake KC's will conduct a targeted mailing campaign as well as a business drive in September in order to raise funds and solicit in-kind donations for purposes of the Silent Auction. Any persons wishing to contribute may contact John Murray at 732-8181.
