The Pirates volleyball team traveled to Carroll on Saturday to take part in their tournament action and split their games with some formidable competition.
In pool play, G-H opened with a victory over Rockwell City Lytton 21-14, 21-16. They followed up with another sweep. This time, they dominated Ogden 21-3 and 21-12. In the final pool matchup, they met host Carroll and feel in three games 19-21, 21-17, and 15-17.
The Pirates advanced to the semifinals, but their run ended there as they dropped a close match to IKM/Manning 25-21, 25-18.
"At times we were playing our best volleyball of the year against very good competition, said G-H head coach Scott Mitchell. "Our serving wasn't quite where it should be, but we stepped up all the other phases of the game."
Leading the Pirates offensively was Lindsey and Heather Joslin who collected 26 and 19 kills respectively. Lanae Broesder continues to pace the offense at setter as she totaled 68 assists during the tournament. Lindsey Joslin also collected seven aces, second to Brandi Wagoner's eleven.
Defensively, Lindsey Joslin led again with 35 assists. Ashley Buell added 29 of her own during the tournament. Wagoner led the squad with nine blocks while Heide Rollefson added four.
The Pirates are no 10-6 on the season and are currently rated 15th in Class 1A. They will be in action again on Tuesday night as they host West Wood Sloan at 6 PM.
